My Problem Scenario is that I want to be able to tell parents of the world if video games are really bad for you.
Broad Question
What effects your reaction time more, throwing a ball or playing video games.
Specific Question
Whats your reaction time in mila-seconds out of ten tries doing different activity's .
Hypothesis
I Hypothesis that throwing a ball will slightly raise your reaction time. Because you are constantly moving to catch a ball and with playing video games you are stationary and don't move often.
Graph of Hypothesis
Variables
Independent Variable:
Prior Activity
Dependent Variable:
Reaction Time
Variables That Need To Be Controlled:
How long they do activity's.
Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation
Neurological Delay=Reaction Time= A response to stimulus= how fast your brain reacts.
General Plan
My General plan is to take volunteers and flip a coin to determine if they have to play video games for five minutes or play catch for five minutes. I will then have them do the reaction time test five times after the activity. Next I will have them play the other activity for five minutes. And lastly I will have them do the reaction time test five more times. then conclude the data and tell if playing video games are good or bad for reaction time.
Potential Problems And Solutions
If the computer freezes during project. Or if I forget to record the data.
Safety Or Environmental Concerns
There are no safety or environmental concerns.
Experimental Design
Controlled, manipulated experiment

Detailed Procedure
1.)Have 1 person at a time play Pinball on the computer for five minutes.
2.)Next have them do the reaction time test on the computer(www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime)
five times.
3.)Next I will have them play catch for five minutes.
4.) i will then have them do the reaction time test again 5 more times.
5.)In the end I will take all of the data and average it out by categories and make a graph and see which one averages out better.

The first five for all of the data are the volunteers playing catch and the second five are playing video games.

Results
I would Say that my hypothesis was defiantly right and that playing catch is better for you. I think it is better for you because it helps stimulate your brain. and i think it helps because you are constantly moving around and it is better and you are being active.
Conclusion
My conclusion is that playing catch is defiantly better for your reaction time and yes parents it is bad that kids play video games. i have and analysed the data and have stated my conclusion. I also had my hypothesis correct as well.
Discussion
There was really no data trend nor was there a relationship with the variables. I was able to answer the question i had with a positive yes. My data had no problems with recording. It was a helpful problem because parents are always complaining about playing video games and i wanted to know if it was really bad for you. My results really benefit the parents out there that think video games are bad for you cause they are right.
Benefit to Community and/or Science
The benefits to the community are for parents to really now if playing video games is really bad for reaction time or not.
Background Research
I am doing my project a lot different then what people usually do it I am doing it with a computerized version instead of with the ruler. I am doing the computerized version because it is a lot easier than having to go and do all the math for the ruler. It is also a lot more accurate than the ruler test in my opinion. What i mean by the regular ruler test is when you have a ruler and you make sure that the lab monkeys fingers are one inch apart, next in the ruler test is you drop the ruler and the lab monkey has to grab it as fast as they can. I also researched the average reaction time i found out the average reaction time should be .215 mila-seconds.
When they catch the ruler you then use the equation d = vt + ½at². after you are done calculating the data you then are supposed to average the amount of times you did the experiment and that is how you do it. my way is a lot simpler all i have to do is have them do 2 different activity the first activity being playing catch after they complete this activity( which is timed) they then go to human bench mark reaction time test and do the test five times after that they then play video games(pinball on the computer (which is also timed)) then they do the reaction time test again and i will average out the scores pretty simple. That's how you do my project. other than that they have been 10 to none people that have done my type of project.

Abstract
My project this year is about reaction time i will be testing people randomly selected people from both genders and had the do both of the test. They all did the test really well. This year my project ended a lot earlier than last years and it made a different and gave me a way bigger chance to work on the data and results. My reasons for deciding to do this project because I wanted to find out if parents are right about playing video games being bad for you and the results show parents are always right. I had a lot of fun and hope to continue this project another time.
